Lotus & Silk Scarves

The palette is neutral: the earth tones of the pure lotus fiber and the luminous ivory of the silk. The warm hue of lotus recalls the humble origins of the fiber itself, a stem rooted in muddied water. It is the color of the natural world, regal in its simplicity. It is calm and sincere and connotes a quiet confidence. It is the color of beginnings.

The ivory of the silk is luminous, resonant of a strand of pearls or the petals of a white lotus flower. It is the color of enlightenment. The ethereal quality of the ivory reveals the sacred essence of its earthly counterpart.

Pure Lotus Scarves

Lotus. . . the most regal of flowers.  An enduring symbol of purity & devotion, spiritual awakening & enlightenment.

Imbued with the spirituality of the lotus flower, lotus fabric is the rarest and most sacred natural fiber. The noble art of lotus weaving originated over a century ago with one woman's desire to weave a set of pure lotus monk's robes to honor an eminent Buddhist Abbot.

The making of lotus yarn this is done meticulously by hand and requires great patience and time. Lotus stems are collected, cut, and twisted to release the fine lotus filaments. Several strands are rolled together to create the yarn, which is spun multiple times to increase its strength. Eventually the natural fiber yarn is woven on traditional handlooms.

A square meter of lotus fabric requires approximately 10,000 to 20,000 stems of lotus depending on the thickness of the lotus yarn. Due to the time and effort required, lotus scarves remain exclusive.
